Description

This traditional walnut swirl slab fudge is a creamy, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate treat perfect for family gatherings, made with ease even on busy weeknights. Its rich chocolate aroma and distinct walnut crunch make it a comforting dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 can (5 oz) evaporated milk or 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 1 jar (7 oz) marshmallow creme or 2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 bag (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 0.25 teaspoon pinch of sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon espresso powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prep Pan and Ingredients: Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy lifting. Measure all ingredients and roughly chop walnuts.
  2. Melt Ingredients: In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, unsalted butter, and evaporated milk or heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a full, rolling boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  3. Boil Mixture: Continue boiling, stirring frequently, for exactly 4-5 minutes. The mixture will thicken slightly. Remove the saucepan from the heat immediately.
  4. Stir In Flavorings: Add the marshmallow creme (or mini marshmallows), pure vanilla extract, and semi-sweet chocolate chips to the hot mixture. Stir vigorously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture becomes smooth and glossy.
  5. Fold In Walnuts: Gently fold in half of the chopped walnuts. Avoid over-stirring to maintain distinct walnut pieces.
  6. Pour and Swirl: Promptly pour the warm fudge into the prepared 9×13 inch pan. Sprinkle the remaining walnuts evenly on top. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the walnuts into the top layer, creating a marble pattern.
  7. Chill Fudge: Refrigerate the fudge until it is firm, at least 2-3 hours. For best results and easiest cutting, chill overnight.
  8. Cut and Serve: Once completely firm, lift the fudge slab from the pan using the parchment paper overhang. Transfer it to a cutting board and cut into desired squares or smaller pieces.

Notes

For the best flavor, use good quality chocolate chips and freshly chopped walnuts. Ensure chocolate is fully melted for a smooth texture. Store fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or in the refrigerator for longer.
