Description

This recipe shows how to grill pizza outdoors, offering a smoky flavor and crisp crust. It’s a quick, family-friendly meal, perfect for weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) pre-made pizza dough
  • 0.5 cup (120 ml) marinara sauce
  • 1.5 cups (170 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup packed (15 g) fresh basil leaves
  • 2 Tbsp (30 ml) olive oil
  • Garlic powder or oregano (optional)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep Grill And Dough: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (400-450F / 200-230C). Lightly oil the grill grates. Stretch or roll your dough to an even thickness.
  2. First Grill Dough: Carefully place the dough on the hot grill. Cook until bubbles form and the bottom is lightly charred. Flip the dough with tongs.
  3. Add Toppings: Working quickly, spread your marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and other desired toppings (hold the fresh basil for now) onto the cooked side of the dough.
  4. Second Grill To Finish: Close the grill lid. Continue to cook until the cheese is beautifully melted and bubbly, and the crust is golden and firm. If the crust browns too quickly, shift the pizza to a cooler spot on the grill.
  5. Garnish And Serve: Carefully remove the finished pizza from the grill. Scatter your fresh basil leaves generously over the top, slice into wedges, and enjoy immediately!

Notes

Use pre-shredded cheese and quality store-bought dough for ultimate speed and convenience. Cook on a preheated pizza stone placed on the grill for an even crispier bottom crust. For gluten-free dough, cook a bit longer for optimal crispness. Opt for lighter sauce and load up on fresh, colorful veggie-heavy toppings for a healthy grilled pizza.
