Description

This recipe creates a creamy, frosty homemade version of the McDonald’s caramel frappe, substituting store-bought syrups with a natural date caramel sauce for a healthier treat.

Ingredients

  • 100g pitted Medjool dates
  • 120ml hot water
  • 30g light brown sugar
  • 5ml alcohol-free vanilla extract
  • 2g sea salt
  • 180ml chilled cold brew coffee or espresso
  • 120ml milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 250g ice cubes
  • 15g granulated sugar (optional)
  • 120ml chilled heavy cream
  • 15g powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare Date Caramel Sauce: Soak chopped dates in hot water for 10-15 minutes until softened. Blend dates with the soaking water, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and sea salt until smooth. Set aside half of the sauce for drizzling and chill the other half.
  2. Make Whipped Cream Topping: Chill a mixing bowl and whisk attachment. Add cold heavy cream, powdered sugar, and a small amount of vanilla extract to the chilled bowl. Whip on medium-high speed until soft peaks form, then refrigerate until serving.
  3. Blend Frappe Base: In a high-speed blender, combine the chilled coffee, milk, ice cubes, 2 tablespoons of the chilled date caramel sauce, and optional granulated sugar. Blend on high until the mixture is thick, smooth, and frosty, ensuring no ice chunks remain.
  4. Assemble and Serve: Pour the blended frappe mixture into a tall glass. Top generously with the prepared whipped cream and drizzle remaining reserved date caramel sauce over the top. Serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

For best results, ensure all liquid ingredients are well-chilled before blending. The date caramel sauce can be made up to a week in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
