Description
A copycat recipe for Culver’s Butter Burger, featuring juicy beef patties and butter-toasted buns. It’s an easy, hearty, family-friendly meal perfect for weeknights.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs ground beef, 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio
- 4 Tbsp unsalted butter, high-quality
- 4–6 brioche or potato burger buns
- 4–6 slices American cheese
- 0.5 tsp fine sea salt
- 0.25 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 0.25 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Prepare Patties: Gently divide 1.5 lbs ground beef into 4 or 6 equal portions, forming each into a patty about 0.33 lb with a slight indentation to prevent bulging.
- Season And Sear: Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Season patties liberally with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until a deep brown crust forms.
- Toast Buns With Butter: While burgers cook, melt 1-2 Tbsp butter in a separate pan or on the griddle. Toast the cut sides of the buns until golden brown and fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
- Melt Cheese: During the last minute of cooking, top each patty with a slice of American cheese. Cover the skillet briefly to help the cheese melt perfectly.
- Assemble And Serve: Place each cheesy patty onto a warm, buttered bun. Drizzle with any pan juices and add your favorite toppings like pickles and onions.
Notes
Tips include not overworking the meat for tenderness, ensuring a hot pan to prevent sticking, using pre-formed patties for quicker prep, controlling salt with unsalted butter, and adding smoked paprika for extra flavor. Buttering the buns is key to the signature taste.
