Ingredients
- 2 (21 ounce) cans apple pie filling
- 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow or vanilla cake mix
- 1.5 sticks (6 ounces) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 (12 ounce) jar caramel sauce
- (Optional) pinch cinnamon or nutmeg

Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prep Pan: Preheat your oven to 350F (175C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Layer Apple Filling: Pour the two cans of apple pie filling evenly into the bottom of the prepared dish, spreading smoothly.
- Add Cake Mix: Sprinkle the dry cake mix directly over the apple filling, covering it completely and evenly. Do not stir. Gently pat any lumps smooth.
- Drizzle Caramel and Dot Butter: Drizzle about half of the caramel sauce evenly over the dry cake mix layer. Dot the top with small pieces of melted butter, distributing them evenly.
- Bake Cake: Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
Notes
This recipe is highly adaptable; substitute peach or cherry pie filling, use gluten-free cake mix and plant-based butter for dietary needs. Enhance flavor with cinnamon, nutmeg, or a sprinkle of flaky sea salt. The cake is done when golden brown and bubbling, and a tester comes out clean.
