Description

This hearty chili recipe features ground beef or turkey, two types of beans, and a rich tomato base, elevated by the unique smoky kick of Brick-Red Chipotle Oil. It is a flavorful and satisfying meal that is surprisingly simple to prepare, perfect for busy families.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef or turkey
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes (794 g)
  • 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes (411 g)
  • 15 oz can kidney beans (425 g), rinsed and drained
  • 15 oz can pinto beans (425 g), rinsed and drained
  • 1 large onion (approx. 200 g), finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp chili powder (45 g)
  • 2 tbsp cumin (30 g)
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika (15 g)
  • 23 tbsp Brick-Red Chipotle Oil (3045 ml), to taste
  • 12 cups water or broth (240480 ml)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep Ingredients: Dice the onion, mince the garlic cloves, and gather all remaining ingredients.
  2. Brown Meat: In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef or turkey over medium-high heat until no pink remains. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Saute Aromatics: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Cook until the onion softens and becomes translucent, releasing a sweet, fragrant aroma.
  4. Build Flavor: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika. Cook for just 1 minute, stirring constantly, until the spices are wonderfully fragrant and blooming (splash in a tablespoon of water or broth if they start to stick).
  5. Simmer Chili: Add the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, rinsed beans, and 1-2 cups of water or broth to reach your desired consistency. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for at least 45 minutes, or up to 2 hours for a truly deep, rich flavor. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Finish with Chipotle Oil: In the final 5 minutes of cooking, stir in the Brick-Red Chipotle Oil. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, substitute ground meat with lentils or extra beans. To reduce sodium, use low-sodium broth and unsalted canned goods. Consider grass-fed beef or organic tomatoes for enhanced flavor. Boost flavor with 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, two bay leaves during simmering, fresh cilantro garnish, or finely diced jalapenos for heat. Leftovers store well in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
