Description

This recipe creates a thick and creamy banana milkshake featuring a beautiful caramel stripe. It is an easy-to-make, family-favorite treat that uses frozen ripe bananas for the best texture.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium very ripe bananas (approx. 200 g / 7 oz), sliced and frozen for at least 2 hours
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon (2.5 ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (approx. 810 cubes) ice
  • 23 tablespoons (3045 ml) store-bought caramel sauce, plus more for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prep Bananas: Peel and slice very ripe bananas into roughly 1-inch chunks. Place them on a small tray lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 2 hours, until solid.
  2. Combine and Blend: In a sturdy blender, add frozen banana pieces, 1 cup of milk, and vanilla extract. Blend on high until completely smooth and creamy, about 30-60 seconds.
  3. Add Ice for Thickness: Add 1 cup of ice cubes to the blender. Blend again until the mixture is thick, frosty, and smooth, about 45-90 seconds. (If too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons more milk.)
  4. Create Caramel Stripe: Drizzle 1-1.5 tablespoons of caramel sauce generously down the inside walls of each of two tall serving glasses, rotating to create stripes.
  5. Pour and Serve: Carefully pour the thick banana milkshake into the prepared glasses. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use very ripe bananas and high-quality caramel sauce. Consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for warmth, or a dash of salt to balance sweetness. Avoid over-blending the ice to maintain thickness. For dairy-free, use almond, oat, or full-fat coconut milk. For lower sugar, use sugar-free caramel or a date caramel.
