Description
This homemade sweet and spicy banana ketchup, enhanced with Sunset Chili Purée, is an easy-to-make condiment packed with unique fruity and warm flavors, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
- 4 medium ripe bananas (about 2 cups chopped)
- 0.5 cup white vinegar
- 0.25 cup brown sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons Sunset Chili Purée
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 0.5 teaspoon allspice
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Prep Bananas: Peel and roughly chop your ripe bananas.
- Blend Base Mixture: Combine chopped bananas, white vinegar, brown sugar, Sunset Chili Purée, garlic powder, onion powder, allspice, black pepper, and salt in a blender. Blend until the mixture is perfectly smooth.
- Simmer Sauce: Pour the blended mixture into a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon. If it splatters too much, partially cover with a lid.
- Cool and Store: Remove from heat and let cool completely (about 1 hour). Once cool, transfer to clean, airtight jars. For an even smoother texture, pass it through a fine-mesh sieve after simmering while still warm.
Notes
For a less sweet option, use coconut sugar as a 0.25 cup substitute or reduce brown sugar to 2 tablespoons. Apple cider vinegar or malt vinegar can be used for different flavor profiles. Add 0.5 teaspoon of freshly grated ginger for an extra zing. If the sauce splatters during simmering, partially cover with a lid. For an even smoother texture, pass the sauce through a fine-mesh sieve after simmering while still warm.
