Description
This avocado dip recipe with charred jalapeño and lime swirl offers an irresistible combination of creamy texture and bright, smoky flavors. It’s an easy-to-make, elevated take on a classic, perfect for snacks or a family-friendly spread.
Ingredients
- 3 medium ripe avocados, approx. 450 g
- 2–3 fresh limes, about 0.25 cup juice
- 1–2 jalapeños
- 0.25 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 0.25 cup red onion, finely diced
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.25 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Char Jalapeños: Place jalapeños directly over a gas burner or under a hot broiler, turning often until skins are completely blistered and blackened with some softening. Carefully transfer them to a small bowl, cover tightly with plastic wrap for 5 minutes to steam, then peel off the charred skin. Seed, core, and finely dice the peppers (wear gloves for this step).
- Mash Avocados: In a medium bowl, scoop out the flesh from your ripe avocados. Using a fork or a potato masher, mash the avocado to your desired consistency (chunky or perfectly smooth).
- Mix the Dip: Add the fresh lime juice, finely diced red onion, salt, and black pepper to the mashed avocado. Stir gently to combine all the delicious ingredients. Fold in most of the chopped cilantro, reserving a small pinch for garnish.
- Create Swirl And Serve: Transfer your creamy avocado dip to a serving bowl. Sprinkle the diced charred jalapeños evenly over the top. Drizzle a tiny bit of extra lime juice over the jalapeños and then, using the tip of a spoon, gently swirl it into the dip to create a beautiful visual and a burst of concentrated flavor.
Notes
For a spicier dip, use serrano peppers or more jalapeños; for milder, use less (or none). If you dislike cilantro, use fresh flat-leaf parsley instead. A pinch of smoked paprika or a dash of cumin can enhance flavor. For an extra creamy dip, you can add a tablespoon of Greek yogurt. For a super smooth dip and quicker mashing, pulse avocados and lime juice briefly in a food processor. Char jalapeños in advance for meal prep; they store well in the fridge for a few days. Serve with crunchy veggie sticks for a lower-carb option. Always use freshly squeezed lime juice for best flavor.
